Searching for Users in a Course

In Blackboard Learn, you can search for users from several areas.

Because searching for users requires access to the Control Panel, the ability to search for users is only available if you have one of the following defined course roles:

  • Instructor
  • Teaching assistant (TA)
  • Grader
  • Course builder
  • Administrator

  1. On the Control Panel, expand the Users and Groups section and select Users.
  2. Screenshot of user search box
In the Search drop-down menu, select how you want to search for your user. This will depend on the amount of information you have available. Searching by username will naturally yield the fewest results.
  3. Select your search rule from the next drop-down box. Only use Equal To if you’re absolutely certain. Using Not Blank will ignore your search parameter and return all results. This can be useful if you want a full list of all the users in the group.
  4. Finally type in your search parameter or part of it and press the Go button.
  5. If there is more than one page of results, there will be controls at the top and bottom of the page to allow you to navigate between pages.
